Straw stars

The legend of the straw star

.

After the birth of Christ, a young shepherdess was lying in the straw, wondering what she should give to the child, what gifts she should prepare for him. She had nothing to give, neither gold nor silver. Deep in thought, she looked up to the sky and contemplated the magical picture that presented itself to her. And there, where the baby Jesus saw the light of day, there stood a star in the sky, so bright and radiant, like no other. It made the girl's eyes sparkle and that's when the idea came to her! From some straws, which lay at her feet, she formed the shape of a star, as beautiful as the one in the sky itself. The star of Bethlehem, which would also show the way to the Three Holy Kings. So the shepherdess managed to offer the baby Jesus a gift, which is known to this day!

The popularity of straw stars

.

Thus, straw stars are a classic, traditional decorative item that brings so much beauty with so little effort. At the end of the 19th century, a straw industry had an innovative idea: although in the summer, could be made from straw remnants straw hüter, but they were irrelevant in the winter. Then they came up with the idea of using the leftover straw to make various decorative items in winter, among which was the straw star. This was the last step to speed up the production of straw stars and they became more and more popular. The machine production of straw stars allowed the industry to produce straw stars in large quantities. And this was a good thing, because the demand for straw stars increased and increased and still continues to this day! Straw stars have always been inexpensive products, thanks to the low cost of materials and the low cost of production. Therefore, the straw stars were very respected especially in destitute households, because you could give the home for little money the classic Christmas flair. Also as a Christmas tree decoration, the straw star was considered in ärmeren families in the first place! Today, the straw star reminds us of the star over Bethlehem, as a seminal symbol, of the stable where the baby Jesus was born, of the manger that was filled with straw to provide a soft ground for the child. Moreover, the star of straw represents the genuineness, the modesty, the austerity that should go hand in hand with Christmas. It is not about the gifts, about the food and drinks, not about the decorations. Rather, the focus is on the family and the get-together! And it is precisely this that the straw star has enabled many households, rich and poor. Straw was already in the Middle Ages a good, which was available to everyone, a rarity in the era of separation between rich and poor, between nobility and pöbel. The star of straw can also be seen as a symbol of overcoming the social division and considering humanity as one community. Thus, Christmas is truly the celebration of love and family!
